Team Orange Crush- Let’s Crush MS!

Hi! I am Shari McGlynn. I am a mom, wife, taxi driver, coach, cook, maid, …. like most moms and wives I do A LOT everyday in addition to working! Which is why when an eye problem wouldn’t go away in September 2010 I went to the doctor. I needed vision to keep up with it all! I thought it must be an eye infection. But there was no infection. I was sent home to rest. Two days later I had limited vision and no color vision in the eye. I was sent to another doctor. That doctor sent me for MRI’s. I went to the University of Miami. The scans of my brain were put on a monitor with 8 medical students to see. Still praying that I was suffering from an unknown virus- I was told that I had Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My lesions were pointed out for all to see. The tears flowed and the male students fled! The doctor looked at me and said, “Don’t be sad- we have medicine for this!” A few days later the symptoms flooded in like a broken dam. My left side of my face drooped. I had weakness in my left leg and arm, speech difficulties and many more neurological symptoms.

That was the easy part.

18 months later, I still struggle. I finally have a wonderful doctor but there are no wonderful treatments. The first doctor was wrong. There is no medicine for this. There is medicine to slow the progression but that is it. There is no cure.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society raises money to find new treatments and hopefully a cure. Until that is found: we that suffer with MS need to keep moving! Team Orange Crush is participating in the Challenge Walk in Charleston on March 2-4, 2012. We will walk 50 miles in 3 days. Each one of us needs to raise $1,500.00. We want to crush MS!
